Why is the Foundation named Marichette ?

The Marichette Foundation bears the pen name of Émilie LeBlanc, a lady with a generous heart. A schoolteacher who lived from 1863 to 1935, Mrs. LeBlanc published numerous letters in the Évangeline weekly newspaper between 1895 and 1898. She presented herself as the mother on numerous children, saying she was poor and not highly educated. Her letters denounced social injustices, primarily against Acadians and women.
